As I grow older, I’m constantly amazed at how the simple messages I grew up with are the most meaningful.

The first that comes to mind is “There’s no place like home.” When I first heard this phrase, I was a mesmerized first-grader who had just seen “The Wizard of Oz,” on television totally in black and white since we didn’t have a color one at that time. The lack of color did not diminish the beauty of this story to me.  I think of it often when I look out at Port Susan Bay from my grandparents’ home, realizing how lucky I am that my grandfather paid $50 for the property in the 1920s.
