March 7, Solarize Stanwood Camano will hold a public workshop on how to participate to get the special local group discount in spring 2012, 6:30 p.m. at Camano Community Center, 606 Arrowhead Road, free. April 10, another workshop will be held at the same time in Our Savior Lutheran Church, 27201 99 Ave NW, Stanwood. Come to either workshop and learn how to GO SOLAR now with solar panels. Selah Service

A contemplative service of music, scripture and silent prayer will be led by Jeff Johnson, with special guest Jeff Maxwell Sun, Feb. 26, 7 p.m. at St. Aidan’s Episcopal Church, 1318 SR 532 Camano Island. For information, contact the church office, 629- 3969. Childcare provided.

Tickets limited

Limited tickets are on sale at Camano Center for “An Evening in Marrakesh,” Sat, March 3, 5-7 p.m., 606 Arrowhead Road. A five-course seated, authentic Moroccan dinner will be served and entertainment will be live belly dancing by the Moon Sirens. Tickets are also available by calling 387-0222, have your VISA or MasterCard ready.

Protect assets

Speaker Jeff Quigley of Adult Protective Services will teach how individuals can protect themselves from being a victim of financial exploitation Wed, March 21, 10:30 a.m. at Camano Center, 606 Arrowhead Road. He will give some ideas that may protect your assets. This is a free community event, no reservations needed.

Camano Center and Safe Harbor Free Clinic welcome Graham Kerr, award winning author, and Michael Lienau, award winning filmmaker, in a presentation about personal and neighborhood emergency preparedness at the center Sat, March 10, 1-3 p.m., and admission is free. Coffee and cookies will be served.

Hero awards

Each year, outstanding individuals and organizations that have volunteered to make life better for others, are honored by Health Hero Awards. Now is the time to get those names to the Community Health Advisory Board (CHAB) for the annual Linda Lee Martens Health Hero Awards by going to http://www.islandcountyahc.org/Page/26. Entry deadline is April 15.

Juried art show

The Rob Schouten Gallery will host a juried spring show March 2- April 4, at historic Greenbank Farm on Whidbey Island, with an opening night reception March 2, 5-8 p.m. during the “First Friday Art & Wine Walk.” The exhibition features 45 pieces of art by 28 artists. Light refreshments served. February and March hours are weekends 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., weekdays 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesdays and Wednesdays by appointment. Writers’ conference

Langley Middle School on Whidbey Island will be the site of the Writers Conference March 3 and 4. Participants can participate in pre-conference events Fri, March 2, and can attend dinner with presenters that evening to hear noted mystery writer Elizabeth George deliver the keynote speech. Saturday morning, keynote address will be given by David Handschuh, speaking on “Change, Survival and Reflection; One Photojournalist’s Transformation into a Travel Writer.” There is a slightly lower cost for WIWA members than for non-members. Men’s movie night

River Of Life Community Church is sponsoring a free men’s movie night Sun, Feb. 26 for men of all ages, at Camano Center, 606 Arrowhead Road, 6 p.m.

Driving program

AARP Driver Safety Program is for older drivers at Camano Center Feb. 24, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., 606 Arrowhead Road, Camano Island, 387- 0222 to register.

Benefit concert

Join the South End String Band, 4-6 p.m. in the Meadow Room of Four Springs Preserve County Park, 585 Lewis Lane, Camano, Sat. Feb. 25, “for a celebration of all us Bird Flu survivors,” said a spokesperson. “No doubt you’ve developed all the im- munity you need for a few hours of high dosage South End String Bird exposure after a day of bird watching.” Dinner will be provided (there is a cost) by Cyndy’s Broiler of Stanwoodopolis, and cupcakes will be offered by Stanwood Cupcake throughout Snow Goose and Pteropdactyl Festival events.
