January 2012 ranks one of warmest on record
As the Pacific Northwest basks in a typical temperate winter, the rest of the country is anything but typical.
A report from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has identified January as the fourth warmest January on record for the contiguous United States and the warmest since 2006.

CT service cuts start this week
Community Transit launched its 20 percent cuts in service yesterday, with hopes that the state Legislature will help provide some new funding.
The Stanwood route 422 to downtown Seattle is losing two trips, one each way.
The cuts are the result of plummeting sales tax revenues when the recession hit in 2008, according to CT’s chief executive officer, Joyce Eleanor. Full Story
Philanthropic breakfast honors local donors
The Stanwood-Camano Area Foundation (SCAF), a nonprofit, premier source of comprehensive charitable gift planning, will honor local philanthropists at its annual awards breakfast Feb. 24, 8 a.m. at the Floyd Norgaard Cultural Center.
Former King County Executive Ron Sims will be the keynote speaker, and the public is invited to register to attend. Full Story

At Stanwood High School, 25 students are perfecting their welding skills by teaching 20 adults. That’s good odds.

Local builder builds legacy in the trade
Rich Nord, of Camano Island, has been a hands-on builder since he was a kid.
He grew up in Kirkland, pursued a construction management degree at Central Washington University and moved to Camano 16 years ago.
His family-run business, RGN Construction, specializes in new construction, home maintenance, commercial, and remodeling projects of all sizes. Full Story

Many dentists in the Stanwood/Camano community participated in a food bank drive last month, and afterwards, held a bowling tournament for fun. Full Story
Punkin
Punkin is a shorthaired calico, 5-year-old spayed female who is as sweet as pumpkin pie. She is outgoing and affectionate and loves nothing more than to be with people all day long. Full Story
