Shoplifter assaults store employee
Stanwood Police reported the following activity last week:
• After assaulting a store employee who detained him for theft on Jan 27, a 26-year-old Camano Island man in the 27000 block of 92nd Avenue NW was referred for shoplifting (thirddegree theft) and fourth degree assault. Full Story

Driver eludes WSP, flips truck on I-5, ejected
A 37-year-old Sedro Woolley woman was transported to Providence Medical Center’s Colby campus early Thursday morning, after wrecking her 2003 Chevy pickup truck on I-5 near exit 212 while being chased by Washington State Patrol (WSP). Full Story
Homeless count shows increase over last year
Early data collected during last week’s annual Point in Time homeless count show a slight increase over numbers collected during 2011.
During the Jan. 26 count in Snohomish County, many volunteers spent the day gathering information on the county’s homeless population. Full Story
Outdoor burning illegal in cities, Urban Growth Areas
With the passing of last month’s storms, Western Washington now faces the daunting task of cleaning up.
The heavy snow and ice storms resulted in hundreds of downed trees and broken limbs throughout the region. The Northwest Clean Air Agency reminds residents that outdoor burning is prohibited year-round for most Washington cities and Urban Growth Areas (UGA). Full Story

Relay for Life launched with kick-off Jan. 26
After a slight delay due to snow, the 2012 Stanwood/ Camano Relay for Life was officially launched Jan. 26.
Planning meetings will continue on its third Thursday schedule through the spring, and the Relay for Life will be June 2 and 3 at Stanwood High School’s (SHS) Bob Larson Stadium. Full Story
Dual actions take aim at social media spammers
The latest step in an ongoing fight against spammers and scammers, Attorney General Rob McKenna and Facebook announced Thursday a lawsuit against the co-owners of Adscend Media, LLC, an ad network that is alleged to develop and encourage others to spread spam through misleading and deceptive tactics, including the one known as “clickjacking.” Full Story
