State lawmakers consider surcharge on boats 16 feet, up
A $1 surcharge on vessel registration fees of both commercial and pleasure boats is being considered by state lawmakers to fund a Washington Center for Marine Innovation (WCMI) at Skagit Valley College.

Senate passes gay marriage bill; governor expected to sign into law
As Lieutenant Governor and president of the Senate Brad Owens announced that the same-sex marriage bill, ESSB 6239, had passed, an anxious audience of hundreds watching the tense floor debate erupted with applause.
The bill, which had bipartisan support, passed the Senate 28 to 21 last Wednesday. Full Story
