Cupp resigns as Stanwood High School football coach

By JOHN GALBREATH Sports Editor

Stanwood head football coach Aaron Cupp resigned his position last week after three years at the Spartan helm.

Cupp has accepted a coaching position as offensive coordinator for a high school in Texas.

“Even though I love working with our Spartan students, I have accepted the position because it helps me and is another step to further my career goals,” the coach explained in an open letter to the Stanwood community.

In addition to his new coaching position, Cupp has been offered a teaching job. This latter position undoubtedly played a key role in his decision to leave the Stanwood district, since he has been on a non-continuing contract during his time at SHS.

Cupp’s grid squads accumulated an 8-22 record during his three-year stint locally, including a 2-8 record last fall.
