Slick roads causes tow truck to lose traction, too
Island County Sheriff’s deputies on Camano Island submitted the crime blotter and reported incidents for the week:
• A caller’s light blue Subaru Outback was stuck in the roadway near the intersection of Iverson Road and Iverson
Beach Road Jan. 17. The caller was afraid the vehicle might slide into the culvert. A tow truck was called, and moved her vehicle, but got stuck itself in the process.
• A woman requested that deputies check on her elderly mother, who lives on South Camano Drive. The caller said her mom had been without power, water and phone for several days. She said she brought her mom water several days ago, and confirmed that the house had a heat source, but said her mom would likely be running out of water by now. Due to the weather, the caller had not been able to make it back to her mom’s house to bring more water or to check on her.
• A Shuksan Drive resident called Jan. 14 to report that his children had been partying at his house and had taken some of his things, including clothing and possibly his pickup truck.
• A Juniper Lane resident reported Jan. 14 that a white car was parked two houses down. The caller said the car did not have license plates and was tucked back under a tree, and that the house is a vacation home; there was no reason for the vehicle to be there.
• Deputies responded to a shoplifting incident at Camano Plaza IGA Jan. 14. Store personnel had detained the suspect.
• A caller requested a welfare check on his daughter Jan. 15. He said he had not been able to contact her for several days. He said she cuts herself sometimes and showed signs of being suicidal.
• An Edinburgh Drive caller reported that his 20-yearold son was “having a temper” and had damaged a door before shutting himself in his room.
• A Vanderlin Drive resident reported Jan. 16 that his daughter had called him from their home because she was concerned about a man she saw loitering at the corner of their property.
• The caretaker of a South Camano Drive property reported discovering a burglary at the home Jan. 16.
• A West Monticello Drive resident reported the theft of several tools Jan. 16.
• A caller reported a fivevehicle accident Jan. 17 near the intersection of SR 532 and N. East Camano Drive. The caller said there were no injuries but all the vehicles were stuck.
• A caller reported seeing a power pole on fire along S. East Camano Drive Jan. 17.
• Jan. 17, a South Camano Drive resident reported that his neighbor’s dogs were “acting weird” and that he believed someone might be trying to break in.
• The same day, an Evergreen Park Road resident reported two suspects creeping around his house. He said his dogs were also “going crazy.”
• A woman reported that she had left her green Toyota 4-Runner off the roadway near the intersection of SR 532 and N. East Camano Drive Jan. 17. She said the vehicle’s flashers were on and a tow truck was on the way.
• Jan. 17, a caller reported that a vehicle was off the roadway and upside-down near the intersection of Rowe Road and Hadley Way. The caller said the vehicle appeared to be unoccupied.
• A woman called Jan. 18 to report that her 17-year-old son had been kicked out of his dad’s house several days ago, and had since been sleeping in a condemned trailer in Concrete.
• The owner of a Douglas Lane residence returned home to find the house ransacked. A big-screen TV was missing and someone had moved the gun safe, but it was apparently too heavy for the burglars to make off with. The caller said the burglary occurred Jan. 19.
• A Gary Lane resident reported walking by a neighboring lot and seeing a flashlight on in the vacant house.
• A North Sunrise Boulevard resident reported that her driveway alarm had gone off Jan. 19. She said she saw a person wearing a dark-colored jacket standing in her driveway. When she went out to ask what was going on, the person walked off.
• The owner of a South Camano Drive residence reported that the home was broken into Jan. 19, sometime in the last six hours. The doors were left open. The neighbors had not seen anything suspicious.
• A 35-year-old man reported getting in a wreck near the intersection of Elger Bay Road and Crest Place Jan. 19. The man said his vehicle was in the ditch and that he had hit his head on the windshield. He was concerned about a head injury, and said that his back hurt.
