NELS “SWEDE” BODIN

June 15, 1922 - January 3, 2012

Nels Gardner Bodin passed away peacefully Jan. 3, 2012, with family by his side.

He was born at home on Camano Island and when he was 6 years old his family moved to Stanwood where he lived the rest of his life.

Swede served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was a commercial fisherman and boat builder. He designed and built his fishing boat, the “Sandy Lee,” in 1954 and launched her in 1956.

He fished in Southeast Alaska every summer for over 45 years.

He is survived by his wife Clarice, children John (Barb) Bodin, Valerie (Butch) Bodin, Rana (Russ) Bodin and Tony (Sherry) Bodin, grandchildren Christine Simpson, Josh (April) Roberson, Patrick Bodin, Katie (Jarred) Carner-Bodin, Heather Hardy, Shannon Carnegie and Lea Anne Moss, and numerous greatgrandchildren.

A memorial will begin 2 p.m. Jan. 29, at the American Legion Post 92 in Stanwood.
