CARL NELSON

December 28, 1937 - January 13, 2012

Carl Nelson was born Dec. 28, 1937, in Burlington to Herman and Maxine Nelson. He passed away Jan. 13, 2012, in Mount Vernon.

Carl graduated in 1956 from Mount Vernon High School. Following high school Carl joined the United S tates A ir F orce a nd served eight years. During that time he went to many different countries and served in the Vietnam War.

Carl worked as a school bus driver in Stanwood and in the tire shop. He worked for Twin City Foods in Stanwood and for Stuart Lervick on his farm. He loved working in the fields and took much pride in how the fields looked. He could make the biggest silage stacks and loved doing it. He was working for the Sakuma Brothers when he retired.

Carl grew up on Fir Island. He loved fishing on the Skagit River and always fished in the same spot since he was a teenager. He liked to go over the mountains to fish at Fish Lake. He enjoyed sitting for hours with his wife on the dock waiting for the big one. Carl and his wife loved going out on the boat, sometimes spending two or three days on the water. He also enjoyed camping, hunting in Winthrop, and spending time with his coffee buddies at Truck City. Carl couldn't go anywhere without meeting someone he knew.

He was the most devoted and loving husband and will be missed by his family and many friends.

Carl is survived by his wife Donna and his stepchildren Pam (Erich) Schmidt, Michele (Bob) Fode and Jim Willard, daughter Patty and son Bradley, 11 grandkids, two great-grandkids, brothers and sisters Terry (Judy), Karen, Cheryl (Gene), Suzann (Jerry), Chuck (Beth), Machell (Bernard) and Steve, and stepbrother Darryl Carson.

Services will be announced at a later date by Hawthorne Funeral home in Mount Vernon.

Arrangements are under the care of Hawthorne Funeral Home, Mount Vernon.
