Prodigies for Peace



The role of music in peace is depicted by Miya McLaughlin (above), an eighth grader at Stanwood Middle School. She won first place in art in the 2012 Prodigies for Peace contest sponsored by Snohomish County in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Another Stanwood artist, eighth grader Lizzy Wirth won third place (see below). They were were recognized by Snohomish County Executive Aaron Reardon, with Everett Mayor Ray Stephanson, Scott Washburn, president/CEO of YMCA of Snohomish County and Neil Parekh, vice president of marketing and communications for United Way of Snohomish County at the Diversity Partnering Reception Jan. 12. The Prodigies for Peace writing and art contest strives to connect the civil rights movement to social issues today.
