Victims call 7-year sentence ‘fair’
Colton Harris-Moore was sentenced to seven years, three months in prison after he pleaded guilty on Friday to 32 crimes in Island, San Juan and Snohomish counties.
He entered an Alford plea, a plea of no contest, to a 33rd count, theft of a firearm. Full Story
Truitt White pleads guilty to rape, kidnapping
Truitt White, 45, of Stanwood, pleaded guilty to two counts third-degree domestic violence rape while armed with a deadly weapon, and one count domestic violence kidnapping while armed with a deadly weapon, last Wednesday in a Snohomish County courtroom. Full Story
Council overrides exec
Moves forward with property tax
Snohomish County Council voted Wednesday to override Aaron Reardon’s veto of a property tax increase.
Reardon vetoed the council’s 1 percent increase in property taxes to raise $575,000 to fund the county’s transportation plan.
Council considered Reardon’s comments, then voted 4-1 in favor of overriding his veto. Full Story

January 24, 1923 - December 5, 2011
Dr. Clarence F. "Clancy" Gansberg, DVM, died of malignant mesothelioma at home in Yuma, Ariz., on Dec. 5, 2011. He was 88 years old.
Dr. Gansberg was born Jan. 24, 1923, in Webster, S.D., and grew up in Stanwood. He worked as a sheet metal fitter in the shipyards before joining the Army Air Corps during World War II. Full Story

James Leroy Larson, Sr. died at age 79, Sat., Dec. 10, 2011, at home in Beaverton, Ore.
He was born Dec. 13, 1931, in Omaha, Neb., to Gertrude (Serr) and Emus Larson, the oldest of nine children.
He served in the Air Force from Nov. 1951, to Nov. 1955, during the Korean War. While in the Air Force, he met and married Barbara (Muldner) Larson on June 4, 1952, in Phoenix, Ariz. Full Story

Jennie Provost, 100, of Stanwood, passed away Monday, Dec. 12, 2011, with her family by her side.
She was born March 31, 1911, to Mathias and Magda Kjelstad, one of five children born and raised in Stanwood.
Jennie met and married Ben Rasmussen, then moved to Craig, Alaska, where they had a delicatessen/ grocery store in Ketchikan for 25 years. Full Story
