PHOTO BY SARAH ARNEY | STANWOOD/CAMANO NEWS Librarian Jill Wubbenhorst got help from two members of the Stanwood Coin Club Saturday to paint the Stanwood Library’s meeting room.

Funded by a grant from the Sno-Isle Library Foundation, the project is aimed toward helping the library meet its strategic plan of building a community of life-long learners.

Mike D. and Steve T. (it’s tradition in the coin club to use last name initials only), were painting one green wall at 2 p.m. Saturday, before getting started on the three offwhite walls.

“We surveyed the users of the meeting room and they said they didn’t like the color of the walls,” Wubbenhorst said.

The green wall will provide a backdrop for the rotating art exhibit coordinated by the Southend Cultural Oxymorons, Wubbenhorst said.

“We get people stopping in just to see the art,” she said.

Along with fresh paint, the grant is paying for new chairs and a flexible style of tables that can be adapted for a variety of uses, and a white board.

“We’re getting technology tables with electrical outlets that can be used as portable computer labs,” Wubbenhorst said. “For groups like genealogy that use the Internet.”

The grant of $2,000 was enhanced by donations to the foundation that were earmarked for Stanwood, along with a cash donation from the coin club.

After the survey of library users, a committee was formed to choose the furnishings and the color for the room. The committee included library staff, Bonnie Thielke, who is president of the Friends of the Stanwood Library, and Mike D. from the coin club.

They brought in four different chairs and chose a modern-looking model with black with silver.

Wubbenhorst said that there are about 20 groups using the meeting room; some on a regular basis and others meet sporadically.

“It’s a pretty full schedule,” she said.
