Two girls sweep derby
A drizzly fourth annual Stanwood-Camano Soap Box Derby didn’t keep any drivers away from the track. Sixty low-slung racers sped down Lincoln Hill, drivers tucked in tight and focused on the finish line.

Guilty:
Harris-Moore settles in plea agreement
Colton Harris-Moore changed his plea to ‘guilty’ Friday, in U.S. District Court, as prosecutors and defense settled on an agreement that consolidated a host of charges against the 20-year-old.
“The many years of Mr. Harris-Moore avoiding responsibility for his criminal conduct have come to an end,” said U.S. Attorney Jenny A. Durkan. Full Story

Fred Melbourne Beals died June 13, 2011, at home in Bow, Wash., with loving family by his side.
Fred was born January 4, 1924, to Otis and Julia (Henderson) Beals, in Marlborough, Mass. He attended school in Hudson, where he met and later married Althea (Fletcher) Beals on February 15, 1943, in Boston. Full Story
