School supplies

Kids were proud of new backpacks

Dear Editor:

The Community School Supply Giveaway on Aug. 21 served more than 400 kids with backpacks and school supplies.

In addition, this year we offered gently-used clothing, jackets and shoes. Information was handed out about the Safe Harbor Free Clinic and the reduced/free lunch program. A representative from St. Cecilia Catholic Church also gave away free shoe vouchers.

The crowd was so appreciative!

It was fun watching the joy on the faces of the recipients. Proudly, the kids walked around wearing their new backpacks filled to the brim with supplies.

Not only was it exciting for the kids and their families, it also was gratifying for the volunteers who assisted them.

We would like to espe- cially thank Alyson Riggan and Michelle Freedman for their first class involvement in this project. The crew working with them also was top notch.

In addition, we want to recognize Camano Chapel, Warm Beach Free Methodist, New View Assembly of God, St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church, Warm Beach Community Church, Stanwood Foursquare Church, The Station and the Thompson Family Fund as donors. Thanks for your donations of supplies, clothing and money.

It was much appreciated and made quite a difference!

With the current economic times, it is more important than ever to support the kids and their families in our community.

This was just one example of how “many hands make light work” and we were thrilled to do it!
