A 30-year resident of Camano Island, Laura Lewis received enough write-in votes in the primary election to earn a spot on the Nov. 2 general election ballot.
State election rules require a write-in candidate garner 600 votes in the primary to appear on the general election ballot. According to Lewis, she received 933 votes.
Lewis is running for 10th District State Representative Position 1 against incumbent Republican Norma Smith.
She is looking forward to an exciting, fact-based campaign.
“I want to thank everyone who took the time to write in my name and to everyone who helped get the word out about the write-in campaign,” Lewis said.
The campaign is about knowing this district and being responsive to the specific needs of the residents of the 10th Legislative District, Lewis said.
Lewis has a master’s in business administration and worked for 17 years in the industry.
“I have been involved in this community and the 10th District for more than 30 years. I was elected to the Camano Island Community Council and served as its chairperson, and we did make a difference in Island County. I am eager to do this again.”
