Harvest Jubilee farm tour set for Sept. 25

“Lavender Fields” by Linda Demetre is featured on the Harvest Jubilee poster this year. “Lavender Fields” by Linda Demetre is featured on the Harvest Jubilee poster this year. A one-day family-friendly event, Harvest Jubilee offers folks a chance to experience the Stanwood, Camano Island, and Silvana area’s special rural character.

The event exposes the agricultural richness of the northwest corner of Snohomish County and Camano Island, where the farms are many, the people are friendly, the food fantastic and where you’ll find an abundance of activities for all ages, especially on Saturday, Sept. 25, during Harvest Jubilee.

Harvest Jubilee is a combination farm tour and agriculture celebration.

Visitors will see farmers in action, witnessing the origin of locally-grown food, fibers and other products.

Wander around 18 different farms that emphasize naturally-raised animals and organically-grown vegetables, visit with alpacas, chickens, ducks, honey bees and cows, soon to be grassfed beef.

Smell herbs on the bushes, and enjoy the colors of seasonal flowers, orchids and nursery plants, apples and corn, to name a few. Plan to carry home arm loads of produce and stock up the pantry.

Just for fun take the grandkids on a hayride while choosing your Halloween pumpkins.

It’s very user friendly: The tour is free, you can start anywhere you want and end anywhere, too.

But don’t miss the hub of it all, where the Stanwood Area Historical Society reprises the exhibit, “Berries, Farms & Dairies” at The Floyd Norgaard Cultural Center, reviewing the history of agriculture here. The exhibit is open 10 a.m. -2 p.m. upstairs at The Floyd.

Along with “Berries, Farms & Dairies,” at the Floyd Center, the Harvest of Art show, “Farms, Fields & Foliage” is a juried fine art show presented by Camano Arts Association, with free admission, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

At the west end of downtown, the Country Store parking lot will be full of fun activities, such as antique tractors, locomotive rides, information on sustainable living, experts on growing your own groceries, arts and crafts, tastings of local beer and wine, lots of good food and live music all day long.

For information, tour maps, and details about all of the activities, visit the Web site at www.HarvestJubilee. org.
