Wright earns SnoCo council’s vote

Brush fire in Heritage Park
Last Wednesday afternoon, a small brushfire ignited approximately a quarter acre of vegetation in Heritage Park.
Craig Helgeland, assistant chief of Stanwood-Camano Fire and Rescue, said a landscaper working on the opposite side of the park noticed smoke about 30 minutes after hearing what he thought were fireworks, and dialed 9-1-1. Full Story

• A 43-year-old Stanwood woman reported Aug. 18 an attempted Internet fraud/scam after responding to an ad for employment on Craigslist. She was suspicious of the money order sent to her and contacted the police before cashing it. Full Story

Elger Bay burglars get only change
When Margie Lawson unlocked the Elger Bay Café Thursday morning to start her shift, there was a loaf of bread on the counter, but no cash register.
Lawson said she knew her boss, Shirley Morgan, had made a bread run. Maybe she had a problem with the register, and had taken it to get fixed. Full Story

WSU offers class on sustainable farming
A course for individuals and couples who want to start or redesign a small farm enterprise, the “Cultivating Success Sustainable Small Farming and Ranching” course starts Wednesday, Sept. 8 and will be held every Wednesday evening, from 6-9 p.m. through Nov. 24, with some weekend farm visits.
