In observation of Labor Day, Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) crews have scheduled a traffic-free weekend.
OK, so they can’t control congestion itself, but they’re doing what they can to help ease it. Beginning Friday at noon, and lasting until next Tuesday evening, there will be no lane closures in the Stanwood Camano area.
Pavement and striping work is wrapping up downtown, between 98th Avenue NW and Camano Drive, which provides crews with a good stopping point.
After the long weekend, crews will move to the section of roadway between Camano Drive and 102nd Avenue NW, beginning the same process of installing illumination, forming curbs and gutters, then driveways and sidewalk, and finally paving and striping.
In October, the same schedule will be repeated between 102nd Avenue NW and the Camano Gateway bridge.
Meanwhile, the Mark Clark Bridge is coming down. By Labor Day, the center spans of the bridge deck should be gone, and crews will begin removing the steel support girders after the weekend.
Drivers should continue exercising caution while traveling through construction zones.
