The Camano View Dash begins 9 a.m. Sat., Aug. 28 at Utsalady Elementary School, 608 Arrowhead Road, with both a 5K and a 10K course. Register at active.com, or e-mail camanoviewdash@ live.com.

CIFR budget workshop Monday

The public is invited to attend the Camano Island Fire and Rescue preliminary budget workshop 7-9 p.m. Mon, Aug. 30, at the administration office, 811 N. Sunrise Blvd. Additional public budget meetings will be held this fall prior to adoption of the budget. Also, bids for Camano City Fire Station roofing repairs will be opened Monday.

Fire Sirens set lunch meeting

Madrona Fire Sirens meet at noon Wed, Sept. 1, at the Madrona Fire Station, 916 West Fifth Ave. at Tarragon. Brown bag lunch, dessert and beverages provided.

Wagons, salmon stories at the park

Gordon Grant from the Island County Historic Society will describe the settlers’ story, in “Wagons Rolling West” at Camano Island State Park’s amphitheater, starting 7 p.m. Sat, Aug. 28. At 7:30, an expert from the Stilly-Snohomish Fisheries Enhancement Task Force will tell stories about northwest salmon, sponsored by Friends of Camano Island Parks and Washington State Parks. Quilters to resume monthly meetings

Camano Island Quilters a.m. group will resume monthly meetings Wed, Sept. 1, 10 a.m. at Odd Fellows Lodge, 96 S. Camano Ridge Road. The p.m. group will meet Thurs, Sept. 2, 6:30 p.m. at Stanwood United Methodist Church, corner of 102nd Drive and 271st St. NW in Stanwood. New members are welcomed.

Dancing and singing in the water

Professor Josephine Gorgi Gilchrist will lead ballet movements with music in “Million Dollar Mermaid,” a class with dancing and singing in the Camano Country Club swimming pool, at 1243 S. Ciscoe is coming to the island The Camano Senior & Community Center has announced Ciscoe Morris will speak at the center 2 p.m. Sat, Oct. 9. Tickets can be purchased by phone at 387-0222, 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, or 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday.

Class of 1960 invited to breakfast

The class of 1960 is invited to the South Camano Grange pancake breakfast Sat, Aug. 28, 8 to 11 a.m. Pancakes or French toast, scrambled eggs and ham, sausage, along with orange juice and coffee will be served. For information about membership, or for directions to the hall, call Pat, 629-3276.

Get tickets now for gala auction

Tickets are now on sale for the fourth annual gala auction at the Camano Senior and Community Center, 606 Arrowhead Road. The theme for this year’s auction is “Vintage Hollywood Glamour.” Individual tickets or a premium table may be purchased for 6 or 8 at 387-0222.

Labor Day concert is announced

Chumleigh’s Central Casting, home of the free Camano Outdoor Cinema, presents a Labor Day concert with songs for the people and by the people. Come bring a picnic and relive the old style concerts in a woodsy outdoor setting with renowned folk artist Linda Allen accompanied by Mark Ross. Chumleigh will emcee. Concert starts at 2 p.m. and gates open at 1:30. Kids are welcome, there will be free donkey rides and a Rail Pup, a human powered single seat contraption that races along a 500 foot track through the woods. Camping is available. Honoring those people lost on 9-11

The National Day of Service is Sat, Sept. 11, and in honor of those lost on 9-11, the public is invited to join in a service project in two different locations. Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints and members of the Stanwood Camano community will meet 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at either Church Creek Park or Camano Island State Park.
