Ciscoe Morris tickets available now

Ciscoe Morris will be talking about garden tasks and great plants for fall when he comes to the Camano Senior & Community Center Oct. 9, 2:30 p.m. A native of Wisconsin Ciscoe visited Seattle in the early 1970s and he liked it so he stayed. He teaches at Seattle University, Edmonds Community College, University of Washington, and the Center for Urban Horticulture. He was grounds manager at Seattle U. for 24 years. Ciscoe’s weekly gardening show airs Saturdays on KIRO 710 AM station. He’s a long-time King County Master Gardener, a certified arborist and is on several advisory boards including the Arboretum Editorial Board and Plant Amnesty. Ciscoe makes regular appearances on the Home and Garden cable network. Tickets are available at the center or by phone at 387-0222. Center hours are Mon-Thurs, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Fri, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Dance at South Camano Grange

Learn to dance the cowboy cha cha Fri., Aug. 20 at the South Camano Grange, 2227 S. Camano Drive. Dances are on the third Friday of the month every month, with lesson starting at 7:30 p.m. (free with paid admission to the dance); followed by general dancing 8:15 -10:30 p.m. Mix of swing, ballroom, Latin, country and the electric slide among many others. Camano View Dash at Utsalady school

The Camano View Dash includes 5K and 10K courses beginning 9 a.m. at Utsalady Elementary School Sat., Aug. 28. Register at active.com, Information at camanoviewdash@live.com.

Dog wash benefits CASA

Friends of CASA and the Camano Animal Shelter Association is offering dog baths at the fourth annual dog was Sat., Aug. 21, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. For information, call 387-1902. Cost of your dog wash depends on its size. The shelter will be open for adoptions.

L ibrary shows appreciation to islanders

Music, ice cream, two raffles, and free books are the Camano Island Library Friends’ way of saying thanks for past community support. Sat., Aug. 21, noon to 3 p.m., the Friends are hosting a celebration with free activities and entertainment for all ages to show appreciation to Camano Islanders.

Roaming Artists set September show Mark your calendars for Sept. 4 and 5, when the annual “Roaming Artists” show of original paintings will be open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Camano Multi-Purpose Building at 141 N. East Camano Drive, Camano Island. Hallie Price is the featured artist this year and Beverly Paulson has donated a painting for the raffle.

Theologian to speak at Mabana Chapel

Dr. Paul Henebury, president of Veritas School of Theology, will be speaking on the topic “The Jesus of Scripture is the Historical Jesus: Responding to Some Popular Mischaracterizations,” at the 11 a.m. service at Mabana Chapel Sun., Aug. 22. For directions, see MabanaChapel.org.

N ature program is on ‘the ice age’

A local geologist, Lawrence Baum talk about how glaciers formed and sculpted the Puget Sound landscape over ten thousand years ago, starting at 7:30 p.m. Sat., Aug. 21, in Camano Island State Park amphitheater. Baum will explain how all of those different rocks ended up on the beaches and in your gardens. Everyone is encouraged to bring one rock from their beach or garden to learn from where it may have come. Sponsored by Friends of Camano Island Parks and Washington State Parks.
