Island County Board of Commissioners is seeking a Camano Island resident to serve on its Conservation Futures Citizens Advisory Board (CAB). CAB members review and evaluate land acquisitions for public use and for salmon preservation. This process usually occurs during May of each year. Collectors car show and flea market

The 19th annual Camano Senior and Community Center’s collectors car show and flea market is Sat., Aug. 14, 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Live music by the Rockaway Beach Band provide background to Walt’s Pork Butt barbecue, topped off by a beer garden, all to fund programs, activities and services at the center.

Dog wash benefits CASA

Camano Animal Shelter Association has announced its fourth annual dog wash, organized by the Friends of CASA, Sat., Aug. 21, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cost for a bath for your pooch depends on its size and for an additional fee, pups can get a manicure. Dogs go home wearing a souvenir dog-wash bandana. Sales of T-shirts and CASA CDs with music by local musicians also benefit CASA, a non-profit organization dedicated to finding homes for cats and dogs of Camano Island. The shelter will be open for adoptions. For information call 387-1902.

Builders association hosts speaker

A spokesperson from the SR 532 corridor improvements project will be guest speaker at Camano Island Builders Association’s monthly dinner meeting Thurs., Aug. 12, at 583 Tillicum Way, off Arrowhead Road. For information call 888-497-4222.

Music included in park programs

Ronnda Cadle, an instrumental acoustic guitarist based on Camano, has been working with Tina Dinzl-Pederson at Cama Beach State Park to incorporate music as part of the interpretive programming programs at both Camano and Cama Beach state parks this summer. The free programs at both parks are informative and open to the public. Ronnda will be playing with Betsy Tinney on cello at Cama Beach State Park’s boathouse, Sat., Aug. 21. Camano Country Club pancake breakfast

Camano Country Club’s pancake breakfast, 9 a.m. to noon, Sun., Aug. 15 offers coffee and orange juice with choices of fresh pancakes, eggs to order, ham or sausage, or corned beef hash, biscuit and eggs, or biscuit with sausage gravy and eggs, and live music.

Summer reading program grand finale

The grand finale celebration of the summer reading program features “Rodney the Shark” rollicking musical show, starting 1 p.m. Sat., Aug. 14, Enter to win an octopus puppet and other prizes, funded by the Camano Island Library Friends. No registration is required for this family event.

Historian speaks on women’s suffrage

Shanna Stevenson, director of the Washington Women’s History Consortium, will speak about the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage in Washington state Wed., Aug. 11, 7 p.m. at Camano Multipurpose Room, 141 East Camano Drive, sponsored by the Camano Island Democrats. Stevenson will relate the victories that women earned by fighting many long and hard battles. All are welcome to attend.

Tickets on sale for annual barbecue

An old-time community barbecue is planned for Labor Day, with fun, “good eating,” and family entertainment, Mon., Sept. 6., 1- 5 p.m., at Odd Fellows Park, 96 S. Camano Ridge Road. Menu includes ribs, pulled pork, corn, beans, slaw, fruit, dessert and beverages. Tickets are on sale at Snow Goose Bookstore in Stanwood, as well as Camano Island Coffee Roasters and Seagrass Gallery on the island. Children 5 and under are free. This event is sponsored by the Camano Island Democrats, but it is a community, not a political, event. For information call Betty, 387-7558.

Nature program about eagles on Camano

Peg Hayes-Tipton, from Washington State Parks, will talk about the eagles and their young in the Aug. 14 nature program at the Camano Island State Park amphitheater, starting 7:30 p.m. Sponsored by Friends of Camano Island Parks and Washington State Parks. E-mail judychwa@yahoo.com for directions.

Library shows appreciation to islanders

Music, ice cream, two raffles, fun activities, entertainment and free books are the Camano Island Library Friends’ way of saying thanks to Camano islanders for their support, Sat, Aug. 21, noon to 3 p.m. .
