Elections
Vote for Tom Riggs
Dear Editor:
There are many reasons I am voting for Tom Riggs (D) as the new state representative for District 10. If I were to list all of them, you would be too overwhelmed, so let me discuss one.
HB 1868 was submitted by Barbara Bailey (R), the current Washington state representative for District 10. Full Story

Renew North County EMS levy
Dear Editor:
As fire chief for North County Fire/EMS, I want to remind our community that an Emergency Medical Services (EMS) levy renewal is on their primary ballot.
I know a lot about the services provided as both a fire chief and patient. On two separate occasions, I have required paramedic care. Full Story

Farewell to our good friends
Dear Editor:
We just dropped our dog, Sami, at Cloud’s Canine boarding facility for her very last visit. Sami is a 3-yearold soft-coated Wheaten terrier and if she could talk, she’d tell you she loves it when we go out of town because she has so much fun. Full Story

No to more taxes, change needed
Dear Editor:
The Island County Commissioners act like they are the only taxing body that taxpayers have to deal with. Now they want the ability to use absolutely no restraint in adding on new property taxes – by lifting the lid on property tax levies.
We already have the third highest sales tax rates in the state. Full Story
Is. Co. clerk
Vote for Pelt
Dear Editor:
Debra Van Pelt has my vote for Island County Clerk!
She has the experience to keep this office going under tough budget cutbacks. This is not a time for Patricia Terry to have job training and bring in consultants to initiate change that we cannot afford. Full Story
IC Prop 1
A deeper crisis for $40 a year?
Dear Editor:

Yes to tax increase
Dear Editor:
It’s a fact. None of us like to pay taxes.
But, we all take comfort in knowing the sheriff and his deputies are watching out for us.
We also like that the jail is ready for when the prosecutor takes the bad guys to court and the judges and clerks render their judgments. Full Story
