Man arrested for fatal crash that killed teen

By JEREMIAH O’HAGAN Staff Reporter

A Camano Island man was arrested last Saturday night, in connection with the April wreck that killed 17-year-old Ellen Rose Floyd.

Garrett Turski, 19, was taken into custody at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport as he was returning from a church trip to Ireland, which has a history of long and tedious extraditions. He was booked into Snohomish County Jail for investigation of vehicular homicide.

A judge released Turski last Monday, but ordered him to surrender his passport and live with his parents. He was also ordered not to consume alcohol.

Incidents surrounding the crash have always been unclear. At the time, Rebecca Hover, spokeswoman for Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office, said investigators believed alcohol and speed were factors.

The vehicle, a convertible mustang, was estimated to be traveling as fast as 100 mph when it wrecked. Floyd was launched from the vehicle and died at the scene; Turski was found in the trunk, where it appeared he had been thrown.

At the hospital, a blood test revealed Turski was intoxicated.

Investigators believe they have solid evidence, in the form of surveillance footage, which shows Turski driving only minutes before the wreck.

According to reports, Turski doesn’t remember what happened.
