Women’s club to take special trip
The Camano Country Club’s Women’s Club have planned a special day trip Thurs., Aug. 12, to Edison-Bow, leaving promptly at 10 a.m. Scheduled stops are at Rosabella’s Garden Bakery & Gift Shop, Golden Glen Creamery, the browsing of delis, galleries and antique shops and Taylor Shellfish Farm. Camano Island nature program
“The new-age kitchen of very old ideas” will be presented Sat., Aug. 7, Camano Island State Park amphitheater, 7:30 p.m. Matt Nesheim from the Center for Wooden Boats, will share good ideas to help grow food in container gardens and use much of the leftovers through vermiculture (worms bins) and to save water, including rainwater recycling. Summer art camps for August
There are only four more summer art camps hosted by the Delzell Studio. Each session is held Monday through Thursday, Aug. 2-5, 9-12, 16-19, 23-26. Time is 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and will feature many different art projects such as acrylic painting, sculptures made from driftwood, wire or clay, mask making, etc. All camps will be held at the Delzell Studio, 2177 Highland Drive, Camano Island, where the kids can go to the beach when taking a break from art projects. Water Resource Committee meeting
The public is invited to attend the monthly meeting of the Water Resource Advisory Committee (WRAC) Thurs, Aug. 5, 3-5 p.m., Oak Harbor Public Works Facility, 1400 NE 16th Ave., Oak Harbor. WRAC is an Island County citizen advisory group that provides oversight to water resources, salmon recovery and marine resource programs on Whidbey and Camano islands. Quilters set potluck dinner Thursday
Camano Island Quilt Club evening group will meet Thurs., Aug. 5, 6:30 p.m. at Jo Hagloch’s house for a potluck dinner. Regular monthly meetings for morning and evening groups will resume in September. Anyone interested in quilting is welcome to attend.

S ave August date for library activities
Music, ice cream, two raffles, and free books are the Camano Island Library Friends’ way of saying thanks for past community support. Sat, Aug. 21, noon to 3 p.m., the Friends are hosting a celebration with free activities and entertainment for all ages to show appreciation. Winners of two raffles for a quilt and pottery will be chosen, and musician Bryan Stratton, who specializes in popular songs of recent decades, will perform at 1 p.m. The children’s nursery rhyme-themed quilt, made by Amy Hickok and valued at $300, and the two-piece pottery set by Mark Eikeland valued at $80, are both on display at the Camano Island Library. Tickets are available from library staff. Ice cream will be served and children’s activities provided in the courtyard outside the library at 848 N. Sunrise Blvd. Individuals and families who sign up as new library friends, will be invited to choose a free adult or children’s book.
