NORIENE DASKA MATHIS

April 13, 1933 July 18, 2010

Noriene Daska Mathis, beloved wife of George Mathis, went home to be with the Lord on July 18, 2010. Noriene left her earthly home surrounded by her loving family who were sad for their loss, but rejoicing that the long battle with cancer was finally over, and Noriene could now experience everlasting joy in the presence of her Heavenly Father.

She was born April 13, 1933, in Poulsbo, Washington to Wilber Murphy and Daska Ray Murphy. With her husband of 56 years, she raised three children: Mike Mathis of Stanwood, Marla Mathis and Marcy Mathis, both of Camano Island. She also played a vital role in raising their grandchildren: Eric Clark and Jennifer Clark, both of Bellevue, Matthew Clark of Camano Island, and Brandon Mathis and Tiffany Mathis of Stanwood.

Noriene and George have been important and well-loved members of the Camano Chapel family for the last 43 years. Noriene worked in the church office for many years as bookkeeper and pastor's assistant. She also spent many years volunteering at church camp as cook, teaching Vacation Bible School, working as a Moppet Helper for the MOPS program, involved in various women's Bible studies and much more.

She is survived by her brothers Cecil Murphy and Dale Paulsen of Anacortes, and David Paulsen of Sedro Woolley, as well and her husband, three children, five grandchildren and two great granddaughters.

The family thanks the Hospice volunteers who made Noriene's final days at home as comfortable as possible, and especially for the hand-made purple pillow case and nightgown. Noriene loved purple! Many thanks also to the wonderful nurses and staff at the Providence Hospital, Colby Campus. Your care and concern really touched our hearts.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 24 at 11 am at Camano Chapel, with a reception to follow.

A private family Graveside Service will be held at Camano Lutheran Cemetery on Camano Island.

Memorials may be given to Peace Haven, through Camano Chapel.

Arrangements are under the care of Gilbertson Funeral Home, Stanwood.
