Eg Sten Kromann entered into rest July 14, 2010, at home in Bellingham.
Eg was born in the Danish community of Tres Arroyos in Argentina in 1926.
He returned to Denmark with his family in 1930 and grew up in the town of Fredericia. Eg was active in the Danish resistance in World War II and served in the Danish Army after the war. He trained as a nurseryman and landscaper, working in Denmark and Norway before emigrating to the United States in 1956.
On his way to the U.S., he met his wife Ruth on the ship "Bergensfjord”. They married in 1957 and lived in the Seattle area and Denmark before moving to Stanwood in 1964.
Eg worked at the University of Washington and at the 1962 World's Fair. He operated his own landscaping business for several years and then went to work for the Everett Parks Department, designing numerous park landscaping projects before his retirement in 1986. Eg's landscaping and the parks he designed are a lasting legacy in both Seattle and Everett.
After retiring, Eg continued his interest in plants. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, walking, bird watching, boats and sightseeing.
After 35 years in Stanwood, Eg moved with his wife to Bellingham in 1999.
Eg is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ruth Marken Kromann. He is also survived by daughter, Kirsten Pack, and son-in-law Allan Pack, of Bellingham; daughter Sonja Kromann, of Everett; grandson Andrew Pack, his wife Tanya, and great- grandchildren Aage and Fjola; and, granddaughter Anna Pack De Ville and her husband Kyle De Ville, all of Seattle.
In Denmark, Eg is survived by sister Karen Kromann and sister-in-law Musse Kromann, and their families. He was preceded in death by parents Aage and Anna Kromann, and brother Ib.
