Music at the fair

The Stanwood Camano Community Fair offers an extensive line-up of music, with the Islanders steel drum band at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 6, followed by Magic Bus at 7 p.m., and the renowned Jimi Hendrix emulator, Randy Hansen, 8:30 p.m.

Saturday offers Majestic Harmonies at 10 a.m., Brandon Cash, 6 p.m., and Rail, at 9 p.m., with Stan Boreson on the schedule Sunday, 1 p.m., are among three full days of entertainment. For a complete schedule see the fair guide in the Aug. 3 NEWS.

Strutz Fest

Strutz Fest celebrates classic rock of the 1960s, ‘70s and ‘80s at the Whitehorse Mountain Amphitheater, a.k.a. Darrington Music Park, 30 miles east of I-5 on SR 530, July 31 and Aug. 1. Advance tickets are $55 and camping is $40. Presented by The Mike Turner Memorial Foundation, proceeds will be donated to Children’s Hospital of Seattle and other local charities. Featuring Toby Strotz’s band, “Strutz,” the festival also offers Whiskey Creek, Davanos, Beatniks, Dusty 45s, Blue Tatoo, El Loco and Heartless, among others. Weekend and camping passes are available online at strutzfest.com and day passes are for sale at the gate.

Guitar in the parks

An acoustic guitarist on Camano Island, Ronnda Cadle is performing this summer at the state parks. She will perform in the boathouse of Cama Beach State Park 7:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug 4. On Saturday, Aug. 21, whe will be accompanied by Betsy Tinney on cello. On the evening of Saturday, Aug. 7, she will perform in the amphitheater of Camano Island State Park 7-7:30 p.m. and 8:30-9 p.m., before and after the interpretive program. Admission is free. Cadle is recording her next CD with former Windham Hill founder and producer, William Ackerman.

Concerts in Terrace Park

The city of Arlington’s Parks and Recreation Department presents Music in the Park every Thursday evening in August starting at 6:30 p.m. at Terrace Park, 809 E. Fifth St. in Arlington. On Aug. 5, a high-energy band from Lake Stevens, Boom Town will offer a variety of country, rock and alternative music. On Aug. 12 Cherry, Cherry is a national Neil Diamond tribute band. On Aug. 19 the “Mowtown Cowboys,” a Seattle classic rock cover band perform hits from the 1960s to today, and finally, on Aug. 26 The Grand Delusion/Highway Run is a Styx and Journey tribute band.

Food and beverages provided by The Lord’s Little Cooker. Bring your lawn chair and/or blankets for a fun evening in this natural amphitheater with great views of the Stillaguamish River Valley. For information call 360-403- 3448 or see www.arlingtonwa.gov.

At the Muse

A soal-soaked sultry songstress, Piper Reva and friends will be singing in the Parlor at the Conway Muse Friday, July 30, 7 p.m. and again, Aug. 28.

On Saturday, July 31 and again Aug. 27, Clarence Gallagher will be joined by local fiddler Jon Parry performing authentic music of the common man in the 1930s, starting 8 p.m., no cover.

The piano man, Marvin J. offers a variety of jazz, blues, pop, and swing standards, 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 6, and the Corbin Keep Band features the wild cellist doing inventive improv, from rock to classical, 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7.

On Friday, Aug. 13, singer-songwriters, Chris and Mary Brown, will be in the parlor from 7 p.m. The Nick Vigarino Quartet is booked for some slop-jar Delta funk blues 8 p.m. Aug. 14. Ed Somer and the Barnacles start 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 20 and singer-songwriter Reggie Miles plays folk and blues Saturday, Aug. 21. Weekly events include Museful Nights on Wednesdays and Argentine tango lessons on Thursdays.

Summer Meltdown

The 10th Annual Summer Meltdown, presented by Terra Roots in collaboration with Seattle band Flowmotion offers great music and information about sustainability at a threeday camping and music festival at the Whitehorse Mountain Amphitheater (Darrington Music Park) in Darrington, for its fifth year, Aug. 6-8. Peace Arch Park concerts

Presented by the State Parks and Recreation Commission, Folk Arts in the Parks includes the international concert series at Peace Arch State Park in Blaine.

Free outdoor concerts begin 2 p.m. Sundays in August with Croatian (Aug. 8), Hmong (Aug. 15), Vietnamese (Aug. 22), and Mexican cultural dance and music (Aug. 29).

County offers Wednesday noon concerts

Snohomish County offers Music on the Plaza during the lunch hour 11:30 a.m.–1 p.m. Wednesdays through Aug. 25 at the county administration complex, Rockefeller Avenue and Wall Street in Everett. Presented by the Snohomish County Arts Commission, the concerts are free and open to the public: July 28, hip-hop by Global Heat; Aug. 4, western swing by The Rainieros; Aug. 11, jette rock by Magazine; Aug. 18, Shivering Denizens; Aug. 25, Scott Lindenmuth Trio. Symphony at the fair

Everett Symphony will perform at the Evergreen Fair this year, 7:45 p.m. Monday, Aug. 30 in the grandstand of the Evergreen State Fairgrounds. The world premier patriotic concert, “Summon Our Heroes: A Tribute Show of Support” concert will celebrate the heroes who serve in the military, as well as law enforcement, fire department and all emergency responders and veterans.

Master of ceremonies Bob Drewel will introduce Washington State Patrol officer Tim Coley who will sing The Star Spangled Banner. Gerry Andal will perform “America” and Monroe Police Officer Bryon Johnston will perform “Amazing Grace” on the bagpipes. A vocal ensemble from the Everett Chorale with soloist Beth El Fattal will accompany the orchestra for “America, The Dream Goes On.”

Of special note, will be the world premier performance of three new pieces composed by a young French composer, Charles-Henri Avelange, who is known for his first symphony, “The Age of Heroes,” which was composed after Avelange’s first contact with Americans.

The fair line-up also includes Monster Trucks on Aug. 26 and 27, with music by Los Lobos, 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 29; 38 Special’s southern rock, 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 31; Lifehouse raucous rock-and-roll, 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1; Howie Mandel 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 2.
