Stanwood native trains K-9 police teams in Iraq
As a youngster growing up in Stanwood, Jodi Stone loved animals. As part of the 51st MP (Military Police) detachment out of Fort Lewis, Staff Sergeant Stone relies on that passion to save lives.
She is currently stationed at the Contingency Operating Base Speicher in Tikrit, Iraq, working as a kennel master with the Speicher K-9 teams.
After graduating from Stanwood High School in 1998, Stone immediately entered the U.S. Army.
Her parents, Barbara and Francis Stone, were supportive of her decision, as was her sister, Jamie Woodruss. Full Story
Harris-Moore detained for trial
Colton Harris-Moore touched down in Seattle last Wednesday, a much-anticipated homecoming of sorts.
Thursday afternoon he appeared in federal court in Seattle, where the U.S. Attorney’s Office brought a motion to hold Mr. Harris-Moore in federal custody without bail. Full Story
Two Stanwood motorcyclists tangle with a deer
Former Stanwood/ Camano NEWS employee Becky Murphy and her husband Mike were involved in a motorcycle accident about 1 p.m. last Wednesday.
The two were headed home on day five of a five-day ride, riding toward Arlington on SR 530, Murphy said.
They were within 45 minutes of Stanwood when a young deer leapt in front of 66-year-old Mike’s Yamaha. Full Story

Christopher McLaughlin was born to Larry and Mary McLaughlin in Spokane, Wash. on Nov 15, 1962 and left this earth suddenly and unexpectedly July 12, 2010.
