Stanwood man convicted on firearm charge, 24th offense
Marcus Weatherspoon of Stanwood was sentenced on July 9 in U.S. District Court in Seattle to six and a half years in prison and three years of supervised release for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

YouthBuild puts at-risk youth to work
Now in its second year, YouthBuild of Snohomish County is looking to recruit
new crew for a 10-month construction training program in Stanwood.
The program focuses on providing opportunities for low-income and at-risk young adults to earn their GED, develop trade skills and establish positive work habits, said Travis Green, program coordinator. Full Story
Camano resident in Skagit County crash
A Camano Island driver was involved in a crash July 9 in Skagit County.
Paul B. Merigold, 78, who was driving a 2008 Subaru Forester, was injured and taken to Skagit Valley Hospital after the collision occurred just before noon. The passengers and driver of the other vehicle were also transported to the hospital with injuries. Full Story

SnoCo upgrades jury system online
The Snohomish County Clerk’s Office has made it possible for citizens summoned for jury duty in superior and district courts to respond to their jury summons on-line.
The Clerk’s Office recently upgraded their jury system to include Jury+ Web Solutions, which is more convenient and improves services to the citizens of Snohomish County. Full Story

Housing Hope targeted in fundraising scam
The Everett-based affordable housing and services agency, Housing Hope, and the Interfaith Association of Northwest Washington, a faith-based organization providing emergency shelter for homeless families, are being targeted in a fraudulent fundraising scam. Full Story
Law enforcement steps up speed patrols
Snohomish County law enforcement will be patroll ing roadways on a statefunded overtime grant through Aug. 1 to reduce speed-related crashes on county and city roadways. Full Story
North County Fire June incident report
North County Regional Authority reports 165 calls made in June including one structure fire, 24 fire responses, 15 motor vehicle accidents, 108 medical calls, four water rescues, two hazardous materials calls and 11 service calls.
The authority has responded to 964 total calls so far in 2010. Full Story
Community scholarships for adults
The Stanwood-Camano Area Foundation now has the following community scholarships available for adults, to help pay for college, workshops or other educational courses.
All applications must be delivered or postmarked by Aug. 15.
