Island County follows state trend in unemployment rate
For the third straight month, Washington state’s unemployment rate has dropped. At 8.9 percent for the month of June, it’s the lowest mark since April 2009, according to the Employment Security Department (ESD). Full Story
Sparkler bomb detonates in mailbox
• On July 5, a 48-yearold woman reported malicious mischief to her Utsalady Road property. Deputies discovered her mailbox was misshapen and that black soot coated the inside. They suspected a sparkler bomb was detonated inside the mailbox. The woman said she had heard a loud boom about midnight. There are no suspects. Full Story
