Disaster Action Team invites public
The Camano Disaster Action Team of the American Red Cross will meet Mon, July 19 at the Madrona Fire Hall, 916 W. 5th St., Camano Island. The 7 p.m. meetings are open to anyone interested in learning about the American Red Cross. The Snohomish County Red Cross is also part of this chapter.
‘Where the Wet Things are’ at library
Children and families are invited to “Storytelling Safari” with the “Wild and Watery Ones,” presented by Tales and Trails Storytellers Fri, July 16, 1 p.m. at the Camano Island Library Pilot Project. All ages welcome and no registration is required. Funded by the Camano Island Library Friends and the Sno-Isle Foundation. Wed, July 21, the library is calling all “scientists” to learn cool water tricks that are amazing, at 11 a.m. Make a science craft to take home too. This is a school age program and no registration is required. Fri, July 23, 1 p.m., there will be a giraffe and staff puppet show at the library.
S-C Amateur Radio Club sets meeting
The Stanwood Camano Amateur Radio Club’s next regular meeting will be Thurs, July 15, 7 p.m. at the Madrona Fire Station, 916 West 5th St., on the northwest side of Camano Island. The community is welcome.
Kids, teens art, creative writing camps
Arty Smarty is offering art and creative writing camps for children (ages 4-15) on Camano Island in late July and August. Biddy art camp “Animals, Animals, Animals” (ages 4-6), July 26-28 and Aug. 2-4, 10 a.m.-12 noon. VBS at Camano Lutheran Church
Camano Lutheran’s Vacation Bible School is July 19-23, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily except Friday it will be 11:30 a.m. Open to children entering first-to the sixth-grade. Registration is due by Sat, July 10. Camp Lutherwood will be leading the program. Children are to bring a sack lunch each day, snacks and all drinks will be provided. Country club pancake breakfast
The Camano Country Club will hold a pancake breakfast Sun, July 18, where the public is welcome. Breakfast is served 9 a.m. to noon and includes coffee and orange juice with choices of fresh grilled pancakes, eggs to order, ham or sausage; or corned beef hash, biscuit and eggs; or biscuit with sausage gravy and eggs; all with free live music.
Dancing at the grange July 16

Nature program is ‘take a hike’
Sat, July 17 in the Camano Island State Park amphitheater, a 7:30 p.m. program on hiking will be presented by Camano trail expert, Carol Triplett. She will give good advice on where to hike—or just stroll—on trails and in parks on the island. Trail booklets are also available. Create a backyard wildlife habitat
Habitat Stewards will demonstrate simple ways to include the basic elements for attracting birds and butterflies Wed., July 21, at the Camano Multipurpose Center, 141 East Camano Drive, 7 p.m. They will share green gardening practices that make yards safer for children, pets, and wildlife while improving water quality and protecting natural resources. This presentation is part of a public education series hosted the third Wednesday of the month by the Camano Wildlife Habitat Project, sponsored by Friends of Camano Island Parks as part of the Island County watershed project. Nature poets invited to Sept. reading
Camano Action for a Rural Environment (C.A.R.E.) is looking for poets, so if you write poetry, are involved in any poetry association, or just love poetry, they are looking for poets and judges for a nature poetry reading at Camano Honors Earth Sept. 11, at the Matzke Fine Art Gallery and Sculpture Park.
