Stanwood Police responded
to the following incidents
last week:
• Fraudulent debit card charges were reported July 1 in the 7900 block of 262nd Street NW.
• On July 4, a Stanwood woman reported the theft of her credit cards while she was in Skagit County recently. Full Story
Fourth of July parade
A 1957 Ford Fairlane rolled through Stanwood’s Fourth of July parade driven by a patriotic driver and his passengers. Ford launched the Fairlane in 1955. It was available in six body styles. Full Story

Ironwing caged for stealing cheese
Harley Davidson Ironwing, alleged partner-incrime pal of Colton Harris- Moore, is once more in jail.
For shoplifting, again.
This time, the young man was arrested as he fled Stanwood’s Haggen Food and Pharmacy last Friday with his bounty of five packages of string cheese.

During a series of community meetings in May, Snohomish County Executive Aaron Reardon compared similarities between balancing the county’s budget to an average citizen making ends meet for the household.

Burn ban announced by Sheriff Brown
Island County has announced a burn ban will be in effect as of 8 a.m. July 15, when there will be no outdoor burning of natural debris, even with a permit. Full Story
WSP documents cell phone use citations
Between 2006 and 2008 in Washington more than 3,000 drivers were involved in collisions while using hand-held wireless devices.
Troopers of the Washington State Patrol issued nearly 670 citations for cell phone or texting violations between June 10 and July 1. Full Story
Grant funds construction of ‘gap’ in Centennial Trail
Cyclists who use the Centennial Trail will be happy to know that a $1 million state grant will enable Snohomish County Parks and Recreation to complete the 1.2-mile gap in the trail, south of Arlington. The grant is from the Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program. Full Story
