Summer plunge

Taylor Slattum, 14, of Arlington, worked on his cannon ball form for the perfect splash with friends at Lake Goodwin Community Park Friday. Summer hit last week with soaring temperatures and clear skies, leaving locals scrambling for ways to stay cool. Meteorologist Chris Burke with the National Weather Service in Seattle said high temperature records were set Thursday in Seattle, Olympia and Bellingham. The high at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport was 95, breaking the old record for that day of 87 set in 1985. Bellingham’s 88 degrees surpassed the mark of 85, recorded in 1952.
