Freedom Park events on 4th of July
The community is invited to the annual Fourth of July tribute in Freedom Park at Terry’s Corner, 3 p.m., to pioneers who founded this nation, and to those who have defended it for more than 200 years. There will be patriotic songs sung by the Camano Island Men’s Choir conducted by Billie Jensen; special recognition of the area’s Pearl Harbor Survivors; and special guests Senator Mary Margaret Haugen, Commissioner John Dean, and US Navy Electronic Attack Squadron Commanding Officer from NAS Whidbey Island. There will also be special recognition of the local Rotary Club who sponsored the new children’s play area at Freedom Park, and to the more than 1,000 workers who spent a weekend building it. Pastor Scott Brents and Pastor Dale Carlson will open and close the celebration, Boy Scout Troop 413 will process the colors. Summer outdoor cinema is now open
The eighth annual Camano Island free summer outdoor cinema is now open every Friday through Sept. 24. The best in classic repertory cinema will be shown and donations will be accepted to cover costs and for film preservation. There is a donation jar near the snack bar; the event is free. The show goes on in the circus tent in case of rain. Most shows are appropriate for families but check the schedule beforehand to make sure. Gates open at 7:45 but movies start at dusk. There is an open mic before the show; folks are invited to come share their talents. Handicap parking and access available. Overnight camping is allowed for a nominal fee. Line dancing open to the public
Line dancing at Camano Country Club, 1243 S. Beach Drive, begins Tues, July 6, 6 p.m for four weeks. Beginner/intermediate welcome; Latin, oldies, pop, Irish, rap, country and more.
Nature program is ‘wetland wonders’
“Our wetland wonders” is the nature program Sat, July 3, at Camano Island State Park amphitheater, 7:30 p.m. A representative of the Stilly Task Force will explain about what lives in the wetlands and how wetlands help us, too. Quilters set Thursday meeting
The evening group of Camano Island Quilters will meet Thurs, July 1, 6:30 p.m. at the Stanwood United Methodist Church, 102nd Drive/271st Street NW in west Stanwood. There will be a show and tell. Anyone interested in quilting is invited to come join the group. The morning CIQ does not meet during the summer.
Documentary to be shown in Coupeville
The Coupeville Peace and Reconciliation will sponsor a documentary showing of “The People Speak” Wed, July 7, 5 p.m. at the Coupeville Library, 788 NW Alexander.
