PHOTO BY JACK MEYERS The Stanwood Camano Rotary Club is busy planning the 2010 Summer Parade and has announced a call to those businesses, clubs, teams and organizations that want to show their “Spartan Spirit.”

Spartans young, old and yet to be, are encouraged to come together on Aug. 7 for this year’s parade. Applications are available on-line at www.StanwoodRotary.org.

Together with the Rotary Club of Stanwood-Camano Island, this year’s parade is sponsored by Pat Rimmer Tire Center/Les Schwab, Windermere Real Estate Stanwood/Camano Island and Thomas and Associates.

“As a resident of Camano Island for the past 18 years, I learned early that the Stanwood Camano Community Parade is unique to our community,” said parade organizer Karla Jacks.

“While I don’t need the baby stroller anymore, the parade is still an event not to be missed. This year’s theme - Spartan Spirit - celebrates all past, present and future Spartans that support our community. On behalf of the Stanwood-Camano Rotary Club, we welcome and encourage your participation in this year’s event.”

Show your support by lining the route along 271st Street NW in Stanwood, or better yet, enter your own team, organization or business.

The parade begins at 11 a.m.

Scholarships available

Thanks to Pat Rimmer Tire Center/Les Schwab a limited number of scholarships are available to schools that want to enter the parade. School groups and clubs are encouraged to apply early for the first-come, first-served funding.

Deadline for parade entries is July 9.

Anyone who would like to enter the 2010 Stanwood Camano Community Parade should contact Sara Gosnold at sara.gosnold@sterlingsavings. com or 360-629-6515 for application materials, indicating whether you would like the general or the school scholarship application.

The Stanwood-Camano Rotary Club meets at noon on Wednesdays in the Stanwood Camano School District’s board room.
