In response to readers’
requests, the
NEWS will run
weekly updates on the General
Mark Clark Bridge project
on Camano Island and
the SR532 corridor project in
Stanwood.
With the tentative opening of the new Mark Clark Bridge only two months away, construction is zipping right along.
Crews have been unwrapping the plastic cover from the section of bridge deck they poured two weeks ago. Next, they will set the short spans of voided slab that connect the deck to the east approach road before preparing to pour concrete on the rest of the bridge deck.
Crews also paved the first layer of asphalt on a section of the east approach road, and are working on the west approach’s mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) wall.
In Stanwood, crews will alternate nighttime traffic along SR 532, between Camano Street and 98th Avenue NW, while they work on drainage and begin widening the intersection at SR 532 and 98th Avenue NW.
They will also alternate traffic through the intersection of SR 532 and 92nd Avenue NW while they install new traffic sensors. Between Pioneer Highway and 72nd Avenue NW, crews will alternate traffic while they drill under the road to complete electrical work.
Thursday night, they are tentatively scheduled to remove some of the concrete barrier and replace it with orange barrels until they finish up their work.
