Cell phone use while driving mean $124 ticket
The Washington State Patrol announced recently that it will not offer a grace period when texting while driving and failure to use a hands-free device become primary traffic offenses on June 10.

Scholarships exceed a million dollars since 1962
More than 130 students and their families packed the Stanwood High School Auditorium for scholarship night June 1.

• Suspicious debit card transactions were reported May 28 at both the 27000 block of 94th Avenue NW and 26600 block of 72nd Avenue NW. The victim stated the card was never out of his possession. Full Story
Students break into high school
Four students were apprehended Monday evening while breaking into the Church Creek campus of Stanwood High School.
Stanwood Police Chief Ty Trenary said the department received the call from Sonitrol, the security system provider, around 5 p.m. Full Story

The total fundraising amount for the Stanwood Relay for Life held last month continues to rise as post relay contributions have been trickling in.

Resource center plans new building
If all goes well, the Stanwood-Camano Community Resource Center will disappear in 2012.
Well, the buildings, anyway.
In its place will stand a new structure — bigger, and more modern, and able to better facilitate the work of its various community programs, like Davis Place, Growing Forward (the community garden) and Morgan’s Tales Used Bookstore. Full Story

Not many people can lay claim to serving 34 years in the same career.

Bill Walker can. When he retires this month, he will have taught art at Stanwood Middle School for over three decades while the building, the school and the community have grown and evolved around him. Full Story
