Community Focus
The recent post office food drive brought in 23,000 pounds or 11.5 tons of food to the Stanwood Camano Food Bank. The postal food collection drive is a federal drive held every year in May, where folks receive a blue plastic bag in their mailboxes in advance of the event. On the designated day, they place the filled bags at their mailbox for carriers or volunteers to pick up. Full Story
Stanwood volunteers honored
Donald Spears was among 12 honorees from Stanwood, along with Anita Dubois, Lenore Haight, Daniel Hanna, Dick Henry, Carol Jarrett, Lois Lingren, Jim Perin, Harriet Rinas, Vern Salsbery, Gladys Schlosser and Mary Smith, who received the President’s Lifetime Service Award for their service to the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) of Catholic Community Services. Stanwood’s Hochstetler and Price named to lacrosse all-conference team
Stanwood High School’s Devon Hochstetler and Andrew Price have been named by the Washington High School Boys Lacrosse Association to its 2010 All-Skagit Conference Team.
Hochstetler, a senior defenseman and team captain, and Price, a junior midfielder, were among 74 studentathletes from high schools in eastern and western Washington to be honored for their outstanding play. Full Story

June 9, 1890, Bertha Joergenson was born in Stanwood; her siblings were Hannah and Adolph; Bertha grew up to marry Ole Bernard Gedstad. Sena Marie Hinseth, born in 1877 in Norway, went to South Dakota where she married Rasmus Hinseth in 1903, moving to Norman in 1906, living there for many years.
