In the gulf

Drilling must continue

Dear Editor:

The president has ordered a six-month hold on drilling in the gulf of Mexico.

The gulf has just emerged as the best answer to the need to get the U.S. off foreign oil. The oil industry and its drilling is the largest industry in the gulf.

The cost to America every year for foreign oil approaches one trillion dollars. It is the largest drain on our economy and it trumps every other consideration.

We must not let the drilling be held dead for six months.

That will destroy the industry and ensure that the president will lose his second term of office and a change in Congress this fall.

Obviously, the president is being held politically to his desire to sell us cap and trade and to appease those that are worrying about the present spill. Cap and trade will destroy America.

We will figure out how to contain the spill. It can be done. It will be done.

President Obama must realize within a few weeks that the drilling must continue.

I have never been wrong in any prediction or suggestion made in this newspaper and I do not think I am wrong here. I have been writing on energy and the economy for 50 years and I have saved America $50 trillion.

God bless America. Bob Hooper Camano Island
