Swindler sentenced for car theft
The woman suspected of swindling a “wet man” left alone in his shower out of a laptop, wallet, cell phone, car keys and a Ford Mustang late last year has been sentenced in Snohomish County Superior Court.
In February, Ashley Dawson, 19, of Stanwood pleaded guilty to both counts of theft of a motor vehicle. Full Story
‘Wedding Singer’ nominated for 5th Avenue awards
Stanwood High School’s musical production, “The Wedding Singer” has been nominated for several awards in the 2010 5th Avenue High School Musical Theatre Awards, sponsored by Wells Fargo.
SHS has been nominated for outstanding choreography and for outstanding performance by a chorus, with honorable mentions for direction and scenic design. Full Story
Colton caught on camera?
San Juan County Sheriff’s office has released photos from a security camera on Lopez Island’s Spencer’s Landing Marina San Juan County. The photos were taken on May 15 at about 1:40 a.m., and show a young man walking along one of the docks.
The sheriff’s department believes the young man is Colton Harris-Moore. Full Story
Click-it or ticket campaign through this week
City, county and state law enforcement are in the process of another statewide Click It or Ticket seat belt mobilization through June 6, and officers are taking extra precautions with people who drive unbuckled at night. Full Story

Board approves learning improvement plan
Last school year, the Stanwood Camano School District failed to meet Adequately Yearly Progress (AYP) standards set by the state.
Signed into federal law as part of the No Child Left Behind Act in 2002, the AYP measures student achievement in reading and mathematics based on annual state testing. Full Story
Early closure for training at county disposal facilities
Snohomish County Solid Waste facilities in Arlington, Everett, Mountlake Terrace and will close early on June 2-4 for ongoing staff training.
Specifically, each site will close at 3 p.m. on the following schedule:
