Island County property tax increase on August ballot
Island County commissioners agreed last Tuesday to place a proposed property tax increase on the ballot for August’s primary election.

Tall ships bedazzle spectators
The Lady Washington and Hawaiian Chieftain cruised around the south tip of Whidbey Island and into Cama Beach State Park last Monday, square sails stretched tight with wind and graceful bows cutting a white line in the rich blue water.
The ships belong to the Grays Harbor Historical Seaport (GHHS), and cruise the waters off Washington as “ambassadors of goodwill.” Full Story

The symbol of freedom so many died to defend

Each Friday before Memorial Day (if the weather permits) select students carefully place a personal flag on the final resting place of veterans at Anderson Cemetery in Stanwood.
It’s a touching moment seeing a young person kneel down to offer such a simple symbol of freedom that a veteran lost his/her life defending. Full Story

Beach Drive culvert scheduled for replacement
Here’s a piece of good news for Camano Island’s Country Club residents: Beach Drive, which was closed by a sinkhole in February, should be reopened to traffic this autumn.
Island County Public Works’ Surface Water Management division held an open house at the Camano Country Clubhouse Thursday night to present their repair plans to the public. Full Story
Student board member needed for library pilot project
Sno-Isle Libraries Board of Trustees and the Camano Island Library Advisory Board are accepting applications for a student member to fill a vacancy for the 2010-2011 school year. The board acts as an advisory body to the Sno-Isle Libraries Board of Trustees.
Along with all members of the board, the one high school student must be a year-round resident of Camano Island. Full Story
