Linksters participate at golf meet

Nick Morgenstern advanced to the second and final round of the District Boys’ Golf Tournament along with teammate Paige Kavanagh (80) last week with a seven-over-par 79 but neither linkster advanced to the state tournament.
Four Spartan golfers represented Stanwood High in the Northwest 4A District Boys’ Golf Tournament last week.
The Sparts’ Nic Morgenstern (79 strokes) and Paige Kavanagh (80) were within seven and eight strokes of the lead, respectively, going into the tourney’s second day but were unable to advance to the state links gathering at Canyon Lakes Golf Course in Kennewick this week.
Two other local players, sophomores Reece Esary and John Thayer, each scored an 89 but did not qualify for the second day of play at the district meet.
