The barn on Birch Meadow Farm, Norman Road, will be among the some 50 photographs and slides of local barns to be shown at Floyd Norgaard Cultural Center May 27, 7 p.m. Owned by Annabelle and Grace Birkestol, the barn is on the Washington State Heritage Barn Register. It was built in 1886 and was named a Snohomish County Centennial Farm in 2007. Gerald Magelssen, who grew up on a Camano farm, has taken photographs of barns in Stanwood, Silvana, Arlington and other areas, and will share them at the Thursday presentation. Island County and the Whidbey Camano Land Trust are working together to create the county’s Parks & Habitat Conservation Plan to provide directions and goals for the management of parks, recreation facilities, habitat areas, and natural resource areas in Island County. To make the plan successful, county parks would like to hear from as many people as possible. From May 17 through June 14, anyone ages 10 and over is invited to complete an online questionnaire. A link is provided on the Island County Parks homepage (http://www.islandcounty.net/publicworks/parks/). It takes about 10 minutes to answer questions about your preferences.

Golfers play for cancer research

Camaloch Lassies 9-Hole Club will be hosting their annual tournament Thurs, May 27. This year, the proceeds will be donated to the Fred Hutchinson Breast Cancer Research Center. “Breast cancer affects one in eight women, so this is an issue that is very dear to all of us,” said a spokeswoman.

Community invited to pot roast dinner

Utsalady Ladies Aid is having their annual pot roast dinner Sun, June 13, 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. This event is to be at the Historical Utsalady Ladies Aid Building, 78 Utsalady Road, Camano Island.

Backbird Bakery/Café owner speaking

Camano Country Club’s Women’s Club will hold their monthly 10 a.m. meeting, luncheon and program Tues, June 8, with guest speaker Ed Beeson, owner of the new Blackbird Bakery and Café. He will be talking about his background in the industry, and will also be catering this event. Luncheon by reservation only. Ladies bridge follows at 12:30.

FOCIP work party at state parks

Friends of Camano Island Parks volunteers will be hosting a work party at Camano Island State Park Tues., June 1, 9:30 a.m., meet at ranger station. Bring lunch, beverage and dessert provided. Camano Grange pancake breakfast

County seeks applicant for one position

Island County Board of Commissioners seeks applicants to fill one alternate position on the Board of Equalization. It renders decisions on taxpayer petitions for property tax equalization. Island Quilters meet Wednesday

Camano Island Quilters a.m. group meets Wed, June 2, 10 a.m. at the Odd Fellows Lodge, 96 S. Camano Ridge Road, Camano Island. The a.m. group does not meet during the summer, but will resume the first Wednesday in September. However, the p.m. group continues to meet during the summer and will do so Thurs, June 3, 6:30 p.m. at Stanwood United Methodist Church, corner of 102nd Drive/271st NW in Stanwood. They welcome new members.

County meeting for Country Club area

Island County Public Works’ Surface Water Management Division hosts a public meeting for the Country Club neighborhood Thurs, May 27, 7:15-9 p.m. to talk about the Beach Drive culvert replacement and road re-opening. Republican women host candidates

Camano Island Republican Women invite the public to the Tues, May 25, noon meeting and luncheon at Lost Lake Club House, 1469 Lake Drive, Camano Island. Speakers are John Koster, Republican candidate for US Congress, and Kelly Emerson, Republican candidate for Island County commissioner.

CASA community flea market May 29

The May 29 CASA flea market to benefit the Camano Animal Shelter Association will be at Camano Multi-purpose Center, 141 East Camano Road, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., 141 East Camano Road. Jamba juice and hot dogs will be available 11 a.m. until 3 p.m., and the animal shelter will be open for visiting 11 to 4 p.m.

Salmon barbecue at senior center June 5

The salmon barbecue with wild salmon, rice pilaf, coleslaw, rolls and rhubarb crisp is Sat, June 5, 4-7 p.m., at Camano Senior and Community Center, 606 Arrowhead Road. Tickets available at the center, 387-0222, sponsored by Angel of the Winds Casino.
