Census
Don’t mistake Republican fundraiser for census
Dear Editor:
Today I received in the mail an official-looking letter marked “Do Not Destroy: Official Document.” Showing through the window is “Census Document Registered to” with my name and address.
Inside are official-looking numbers and codes, such as a census tracking code with eight letters and numbers.
Inside, a letter headed “2010 Congressional District Census,” a very official looking questionnaire, and a postage-paid return envelope.
The questionnaire asks questions about one’s political beliefs and has a section requesting financial contributions.
The return envelope states: “Process immediately: 2010 Congressional District Census enclosed.”
We all know the census is being conducted now.
How many recipients of this mailing are going to read the fine print and realize that it has absolutely nothing to do with the U.S. Census, but is rather from the Republican Party?
If the Census Bureau did not receive your census questionnaire, a trained census worker with a badge will be visiting your house soon.
This person will not be asking for any money, or for your political opinions.
Please do not fall for this scam.
