Mountain stewards needed

Volunteers are needed to teach day hikers about lowimpact recreational skills in the Mountain Steward program.

Mountain Steward volunteers will tain trail users, including backpackers and climbers, on natural history and back country management.

Volunteers work in the lower segments of the three busiest Mount Baker area trail systems: Heliotrope Ridge, Park Butte/Railroad Grade and Heather Meadows.

Working with fellow Mountain Stewards, they will interact with the public for three daytime shifts.

Volunteers must be 18 years or older with hiking and outdoor recreation skills.

A training will be offered July 10 and 17 and trainees must commit to volunteer a total of three weekend days between July 24 and Sept. 12.

An optional training for Heather Meadows volunteers is July 24.
