Deputies catch hit and run driver

Island County Sheriff’s deputies on Camano Island responded to the following recently:

• On May 13, a 19-yearold man reported his blue 2005 Chevrolet Suburban had been struck by a red Toyota pickup truck near Twin City Foods. The Toyota, which was carrying three people, then fled the scene, headed toward Camano Island. Deputies spotted a red 1989 Toyota pickup with front-end damage and three occupants near Terry’s Corner, where the truck made an illegal left-hand turn onto Sunrise from the through-lane. They stopped the truck, which was being driven by a 24-year-old man who admitted his license was suspended and he was uninsured. His vehicle registration was also expired. He and his two passengers, a 20-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman, admitted there had been an accident. The incident was turned over to the Stanwood Police Department for further investigation.

• A 53-year-old woman living on Gladstone Drive reported on May 15 that several items were missing from her home, including $232 cash; prescription drugs valued near $275; a shirt valued at $30; a Fuji digital camera ($200); and an Acer notebook computer ($400). The woman suspects the items were taken by her son, who lives with her, but deputies found no evidence to confirm it.

• Deputies responded to an alleged domestic violence incident on April 27. The dispatcher advised that an argument could be heard in the background of the 911 call. When they arrived at the Good Road residence, they discovered several cars in the driveway, one of which had a broken passenger window. Several windows in the house were broken, as well. Inside were a 58-year-old woman and a 56-year-old man. The woman’s neck was “beet red” and she claimed the man had choked her in the course of their argument. Based on probable cause, the man was arrested in connection with assault, second-degree for domestic violence. The woman was directed to file a voluntary report of the incident, which she never did, despite the fact that deputies followed up on the issue with her. As of May 17, the woman had been of no help in the investigation, the man had since been released from jail, and deputies requested the case be closed.

• A 67-year-old man, living on Karen Ann Drive, reported on May 17 that there had been fraudulent activity on his credit card, in the amount of $399. There had also been an unsuccessful attempt to purchase $45 worth of gasoline. There are no leads or suspects.
