‘The Thin Place’
Intiman Theatre continues its 2010 season with “The Thin Place,” a commissioned world premiere conceived and directed by Intiman Associate Producer Andrew Russell and written by Sonya Schneider based on interviews by KUOW’s Marcie Sillman with more than a dozen Seattleites, and movement and choreography guided by Donald Byrd as consultant.
The one-man play stars Gbenga Akinnagbe, from HBO’s “The Wire,” as Isaac, a young man struggling to make sense of his shattered faith, and the 10 people that he encounters on his journey. ‘The King and I’
Rodgers and Hammerstein’s much-loved musical, “The King and I’ is presented by the Lyric Light Opera in McIntyre Hall in Mount Vernon June 19, 20, 25, 26 and 27. The story of the British governess brought into the court of Siam to tutor the king’s many children is told to the sweeping melodies of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Shall We Dance,” “Whistle a Happy Tune,” and “ Getting to Know You” among other great tunes. ‘16 Wounded’
People’s Theatre of Seattle presents “16 Wounded,” a play about war and reconciliation set in Amsterdam in the early 1990s. Written by Eliam Kraiem, the play examines the human side of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Directed by Michelle Haines, performances are Thursday to Sunday nights, June 3-13, at Open Circle Theatre, 2222 Second Ave. in the Belltown community of Seattle. Bernstein’s ‘Candide’
The 5th Avenue Theatre presents Leonard Bernstein’s “Candide” directed by Artistic Director David Armstrong through June 13. Starring in the title role is New York actor Stanley Bahorek, and his love Cunegonde is Laura Griffith, whose Broadway credits include “The Light on the Piazza.” The comic and dramatic adventures of a young man in search of his one true love, “Candide” is inspired by Voltaire’s wickedly satirical novel. This musical masterpiece includes witty lyrics by Richard Wilbur, Stephen Sondheim, Dorothy Parker, Lillian Hellman and Leonard Bernstein himself.
