Spartan tracksters take fourth

Stanwood’s Robert Hanke is the WesCo 4A North Division champion in the 300 intermediate hurdles after posting a time of 39.4 seconds. He also took second in the 110 high hurdles.
The Stanwood boys’ track team accumulated 97 team points and took fourth place in the North Division Championships held at Arlington’s John Larson Stadium last week.
Lake Stevens took the crown with 111 points while Cascade and Everett finished with 109 and 105 points, respectively.
Snohomish (91 points), Arlington (87), Marysville- Pilchuck (86), Monroe (57) and Oak Harbor (36) followed Stanwood.
Taking top honors as North Division champions were Spartans Kale Schmidt, with two title-taking efforts in the long jump (22 feet, 3 inches) and the 400 meter run (49.9), Robert Hanke with an easy win in the 300 intermediate hurdles (39.4) and the 1600 relay team of Alexander Bentz, Dean Bretland, Trevor Fekkes and Hanke (3:27).
Hanke also finished second in the 110 high hurdles with a clocking of 14.7 seconds.
Josh Entwisle and Schmidt were third in the 100 (11.2) and the high jump (6- 0), respectively.
Aaron Wiganosky grabbed the local lads’ sole fourth place with a 13-0 clearance in the pole vault competition.
Other individual Sparts finishing in the top eight were Trevor Fekkes in the high jump (fifth, 5-08), Joe Eidsness in the javelin toss (sixth, 151-11), Ben Ulrich in the 300 hurdles (seventh, 42.4), Travis Stone in the pole vault (seventh, 12-0) and Michael Randall in the discus (seventh, 125-07).
Track and field district preliminaries take place tomorrow, Wed., May 19. Field events will begin at 3:30 p.m. while track events start at 3:45. Friday, May 21, the district finals in the field events will begin at 5 p.m. with the track events due to start at 6 p.m. All district events will be held at Snohomish High School.
