Megan Lalone, two tennis tandems move on to district
Stanwood sophomore Megan Lalone breezed through her four matches in the WesCo 4A North Division girls’ tennis competition last week, thereby claiming the league singles championship at the Arlington High School courts. Full Story
Spartan linksters finish fifth in league tourney
Stanwood’s boys’ golf team finished fifth in the WesCo 4A North divisional tournament held at Everett’s Legion Memorial Golf Course last Wednesday afternoon.
The Sparts accumulated 414 strokes over the 18 hole, par-72 course.
Arlington’s Eagles took the league title with 391 total strokes. Full Story
Fastpitch team views for district title this week
Snohomish’s Panthers didn’t stand much of a chance, it turned out, as they were baffled by Stanwood’s Brittany Jeans’ pitching and Sammy Bingham’s hitting in last week’s regular season finale here on the home turf. Full Story
Lady Spartans grab third place at track divisional
Freshman Emily Wayland and two long-distance runners, Natasha Verma and Minna Fields, each became North Division individual champions with season-high, and in the case of Wayland and Verma, career-high marks in their respective events.
They and their fellow Lady Spartans took third overall in the Western Conference 4A North Division Track and Field Championships with 132 points. Full Story
Stanwood baseball team concludes season with district loss
An 8-7 extra-inning loss to a rallying Monroe team marked the end of the 2010 season for Stanwood’s baseball nine last week.
After battling to a 6-6 deadlock after the regulation seven frames, the Sparts’ Michael McCune’s sacrifice fly brought in the goahead run in the top of the eighth inning. Full Story
Spartan tracksters take fourth
The Stanwood boys’ track team accumulated 97 team points and took fourth place in the North Division Championships held at Arlington’s John Larson Stadium last week.
Lake Stevens took the crown with 111 points while Cascade and Everett finished with 109 and 105 points, respectively. Full Story
