School district budget

Why not lay off high paid administrators?

Dear Editor:

Regarding the story, “District to drop 18 teaching positions,” the Stanwood- Camano School Board nor the superintendent makes any mention of cutting any administrators.

Why? The board should make it public, why they only are cutting back on teachers.

Here are some interesting facts as posted in the (Everett) Herald regarding the salaries of school superintendents around Snohomish County. This list includes the top 10 districts, out of the total of 15 districts listed.

I have listed the number of students in the district and then that district’s superintendent salary:

Mukilteo 14,529 $225.014

Lake Stevens 7,808 $221.052

Northshore 19,919 $218,242

Edmonds 20,675 $216,610

Monroe 7,983 $211,692

Stanwood-Camano 5,342 $202,115

Marysville 11,909 $196,062

Arlington 5,635 $195,000

Everett 18,967 $195,030

Snohomish 9,812 $193,750

Now remember, each of these superintendents have an unknown number of assistants.

The Stanwood-Camano School District is way out of line when it comes to the number of students compared to the superintendent’s salary.

I think we as taxpayers, all have to remember this the next time the school board asks us to pass any bond or levies.

It is issues like this that make many lose support for our schools. This to me is almost unbelievable.
